‘Channel Islands Musicians weekend was held in Guernsey, with musicians attending from St Helier, Alderney, St Peter Port and L’Islet Corps’. The guest leaders for the weekend were Southern Divisional Bandmaster Stephen Smith who led the band and Majors Ian and Yvonne Field (Yvonne led the Singing and Ian led the worship).
On Friday 15th in the evening the delegates met for a meal and informal fellowship and during the evening, Stephen and Yvonne introduced themselves.
Saturday 16th was spent in rehearsals – Brass, Mixed Vocal, Ladies voices. On the Saturday evening a ‘Jubilate’ music festival was enjoyed by a capacity congregation, during which the band and Songsters and ladies voices all contributed pieces and songs and Stephen Smith contributed a number of moving Oboe solo’s. Arthur Crago from Tunstal Corps, formerly of St Helier gave his testimony speaking of how the Lord had transformed his life.
The theme of Sunday worship was ‘Praise’ following on the ‘Jubilate’ theme from the night before and again the band, Songsters and ladies voices contributed helpful music and songs that led people in worship. Stephen Smith played ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’ (on the oboe) and this inspiring contribution moved the congregation and left a feeling of awe at how mighty our God is.
The delegates and leaders shared fellowship together over lunch provided at the Peninsular Hotel in Guernsey before bringing the weekend to an end with a praise meeting. In the praise meeting, again there were brass, oboe and vocal contributions, and Barbara Short of St Helier Corps spoke of the Lord’s leading in her life and spoke of how she is open for the Lord to lead her to new things in his service in the future.
